I KNOW, I KNOW. This is supposed a blog series about songs you might not be aware of. I also know everyone and their parents know about OneRepublic but it doesn’t change the fact that they are damn good at what they do--making ridiculously catchy songs, which is easy when you're frontman is super producer/songwriter, Ryan Tedder.
The band is gearing up to drop their fourth album entitled “Oh My My”. The album boasts the fact that it was created all around the world, recorded in hotels instead of studios. The global theme has shown itself in the music videos for both “Kids” and “Wherever I Go” already.
The three singles are some of the band’s best work in their career. The songs sound alive, which is partly due to the band recording this album while traveling.
The track “Kids” is already an album highlight, a track brimming with nostalgia but a heavy reminder not to get stuck in it.This song will be a heavy one during graduations and first days of school alike.
The first single, “Wherever I Go” has tension filled verses with minimal instrumental, Tedder’s voice echoing through, before it hits the chorus, leaving you with a new OneRepublic. It’s fun, dance-y and has a little disco vibe to it. Even though the band plays around with more electronic elements, the instruments are still very present on the track.
If this is what the future of OneRepublic sounds like, then the Future Looks Good.
