Calico Yaworski '18
Communication Arts Major, Theatre Minor
From a young age, Calico Yaworski was thrown into the world of music and performing arts. Born in 1996 and raised in Utica, NY, Calico’s family provided an environment enriched with music and performing. Now in her senior year at Utica College, Calico currently holds the Programming Director position at WPNR.
In her free time, Calico can often be found singing and writing songs, baking, obsessing over the 1980’s (and Stranger Things), or playing with her best friend—Nellie Olsen the dog! Some of Calico’s performance credits include performing at the Utica Memorial Auditorium several times (as the singer of the National Anthem for both Utica College men’s hockey games and Utica Comets hockey games), several high school and local community theatre productions, and her auditions for both American Idol and the X Factor.
Of course, a Programming Director should have an impeccable knowledge of and taste for music! Some of Calico’s favorite acts include: Billy Joel, The 1975, City and Colour, The Beatles, Bon Iver, Arctic Monkeys, Thirty Seconds to Mars, The Chainsmokers, Taylor Swift, Coldplay, and The Fray.
Calico found her way onto the radio in an unexpected way—through theatre. While participating in several musical productions throughout high school, Calico gained public speaking skills and an interest in the Communications Arts field. Eventually, Communication Arts was chosen as her major with Theatre as a minor. While in her sophomore year, she was hired by WPNR into a music staff position, moving to Music Director shortly after being hired, and eventually made her way to the Programming Director position she holds today.
